2 Hour Timer

The clock opens at 02:00:00, ready for a long study session, a slow-cooking check or a parking limit. Press Start and an alarm plays when time is up, while a progress bar and the tab title show how much is left. It is free and runs in your browser with no upload.

How to use the 2 hour timer

This page is a countdown with the length already filled in: 2 in the Hours box, which makes 120 minutes or 7,200 seconds.

  1. Notice that Quick start offers 1 hour but not 2 hours, so it reads Custom time. The boxes below it already hold your two hours.
  2. Confirm Hours (2), Minutes (0) and Seconds (0). If you need 1 hour 45 minutes, change the boxes and the display follows.
  3. Type a Label (optional), for instance Parking or Revision. The words appear above the digits and again in the Time is up message.
  4. Tick or untick Play a sound when time is up, then press Start. The digits count down from 02:00:00 and the same figure is shown in the tab title.
  5. Use Pause and Resume when you stop for a call or a meal, Reset to return to the full two hours, and Full screen for a large clock.

Space starts and pauses, and R resets while the timer is stopped, provided no text box has the cursor.

Splitting two hours into blocks

Two hours is a long stretch to hold in your head as one piece. Most people get more done when they cut it into smaller blocks and take a short break between them. In plain numbers, 2 hours is 120 minutes, 7,200 seconds, or one twelfth of a day.

Here are three common ways to divide it:

PlanBlocksBreaksTotal
Four blocks of 25 minutes100 min3 x 5 min = 15 min115 min
Three blocks of 35 minutes105 min2 x 7.5 min = 15 min120 min
Two blocks of 50 minutes100 min1 x 20 min120 min

The first plan leaves 5 minutes spare, which is useful for pouring a drink or packing up. If you like the 25 plus 5 rhythm, the Pomodoro timer runs it automatically, while this page times the whole two hours as one container. Use the time calculator to check any plan that adds up awkwardly.

Cost is another reason to track two hours carefully. A freelancer who charges $35 an hour and works a full session earns 2 x 35 = $70, and one who loses 15 minutes to distraction has billed 1.75 hours, or $61.25. The time converter turns minutes into decimal hours for exactly this kind of sum.

Long cooking jobs are another fit. A casserole or a stew that simmers for two hours usually needs a stir or a look at the liquid partway through. Many cooks run the full timer and glance at the progress bar, which is half full at the one hour mark. Follow your recipe for temperature and doneness, since pots and stoves vary.

Parking limits, films and why a backup alarm helps

A two hour limit is common on city streets and in car parks. If your ticket allows two hours, set a label such as Car and start the timer the moment you leave the car. Aim to return a little early, because the rules, signs and enforcement on the street decide what counts, not this page. Check the sign for exact wording, including whether the limit restarts if you move the car.

The same length suits a film. Most feature films run between 90 and 150 minutes, so a two hour timer is a rough guide for when to start dinner or when a younger viewer should be in bed. Check the running time listed for the film you are watching.

Long timers have practical limits that short ones hide:

  • The tab must stay open. If the browser closes, the phone sleeps deeply or the battery runs out, the countdown and the sound stop. A phone that locks its screen may not play the alarm.
  • One countdown only. There is no repeat, no second timer, no saved timer and no pop-up notification.
  • Everything depends on the sound. The page can only beep if the device is not muted and the tab is still alive, so for anything with a penalty, such as a parking fine or a pickup time, also set an alarm in your phone clock.

The display stays correct because it compares the end time with your device clock, even if the browser slows a hidden tab. Where the browser supports it, the page also requests that the screen stays awake. For a clock time instead of a duration, use the online alarm clock. For a shorter job, try the 60 minute timer, and for a longer one the 3 hour timer.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

The questions people ask most, answered in plain words.

How many minutes and seconds are in 2 hours?

Two hours is 120 minutes, which is 7,200 seconds. The timer shows it as 02:00:00, with hours, minutes and seconds each padded to two digits, and it counts down to 00:00:00. In decimal hours the figure is simply 2.00, which suits timesheets.

Is this safe to rely on for a parking limit?

Treat it as a helper, not a guarantee. The page must stay open, the device must not be muted, and a locked phone may not sound the alarm. For a limit with a fine attached, also set an alarm in your phone clock and leave a margin before time runs out.

How can I divide two hours into study blocks?

A common split is four blocks of 25 minutes with three short breaks of 5 minutes, which totals 115 minutes and leaves 5 spare. Another is two blocks of 50 minutes with a 20 minute break. Pick whichever rhythm feels sustainable and adjust it after a few sessions.

Does the timer keep counting if the screen turns off?

It may not. The page asks the screen to stay awake where the browser allows it, but a phone that sleeps or switches off the tab can pause the page and silence the alarm. On a laptop with the lid open and the tab visible, the count is normally reliable.

Why is there no 2 hour entry in Quick start?

Quick start lists only a short set of lengths, and its longest is 1 hour. This page fills in the Hours box with 2 for you, so Quick start shows Custom time while the clock reads 02:00:00. Everything else on the page behaves the same way.
